Spring is around the corner even though winter seems to be hanging on around a large portion of the country. The long cold winter has had many fireplaces and stoves working around the clock. Because of this it is more important than ever to make sure proper sweeping and maintenance of chimneys is done to prevent chimney fires. We have recently seen more than an average number of chimneys with excessive levels of creosote buildup causing a potentially dangerous situation to the homeowners, and stove operators involved. We have even had a couple reports of chimney fires, including a lawyer we have done work for asking our opinion of a lawsuit he is working on where a chimney fire caused a house fire in an attic. Possibly due to a faulty installation but probably only became an issue because the homeowner did not properly maintain his chimney to prevent chimney fires.

Always make sure to have your chimney swept and inspected at least once a year as a key step in how to prevent a chimney fire. It is recommended to have a professional perform this service to prevent chimney fires. However, some customers may prefer to perform their own maintenance if they have the knowledge and ability. We have a large stock of chimney sweeping tools available for the homeowner or professional who plan to perform chimney sweeps. Including rods, brushes, adaptors, R.O. Cleaning accessories, ladder hooks, and more. If it is not listed on our website we probably have it and just have not listed it or had a request for that item yet. Be safe, and stay warm.
